The Clay Castle of Porumbacu

Quieter or more turbulent, depending on how much water it gathers from the ridges, the Râul Mare accompanies travellers to the glacial lakes of Negoiu, while crossing villages, forests and glades, or the most beautiful canyons of Transylvania. It stops just enough to catch its breath, in the courtyard of a fairy-tale castle, with gentle lines and pointed towers, built on wooden armature and lined with natural materials.

A Rivendell at the foot of the mountain, inspired by the shadows of the forest, the Clay Castle raises its lights from under shingle hats, immersed in a vegetable paradise whose charm increases every season. Rooms, candle-lit and embellished with rustic wooden furnishings — combine medieval charm with modern comforts. Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit it every year, walking in Calendarului Park, hanging out in the trout farms in the Valea Zânelor or hurrying towards Transfăgărăşan and Balea Lake, which are only a step away.
