Țara Făgărașului

The Făgăraș Fortress

Halfway between Sibiu and Brasov, one of the most beautiful castles in the world, Făgăraş Fortress, has been, over the centuries, residence for great princes of Transylvania and the administrative center of the great domain in the heart of the land.

The glorious fortress of the princesses, an invincible citadel, once shone with banquets and balls worthy of an imperial court, welcomed with great pomp important foreign messengers, but also knew moments of danger or the turmoil of the harsh years of exile of a fairy-tale Lady. In the evenings that descend among the high columns, shadows of knights in shining armour lurk over the walls of Făgăraş Fortress, keeping watch on this former imperial residence, a military center once supported by a domain of 60 villages.

Over the years, the elegance of this citadel has impressed travellers, who carried its story forward as one of the most important fortresses of Transylvania: rich, well-defended, and powerful.
